ALLERGIES: What CAN he eat?

Whenever I tell someone about my son's allergies (dairy, nuts, legumes, soy, eggs, green pea, and hemp) their first response is usually "So what CAN he eat?" I figured I'd jot down what exactly our son with allergies eats in a day.  It seems to be what everyone is most interested in.

Odiorne Point State Park

Winter 2011

It's crazy to think that this time last year we were hip deep in snow!  We had so much snow that I carved seats into the snow banks around our fire pit.  I even made cup holders and put towels on the seats so we didn't freeze our butts off.  We all put on our snow suits, lit the fire and relaxed on our snow seats.  It was AWESOME!!!

ALLERGIES: Affect Siblings Too

Brothers
Hampton Beach
Summer 2011
I was in the garage vacuuming out the van (yes I drive a minivan...sigh...) when my nine year old, walks in with tears streaming down his face.

I ask him "What's wrong?"

He says "I didn't know he could have the bunny marshmallows."

As soon as the words were out of his mouth I understood.  I wrapped my arms around him and just held him as he cried, as we both cried.

RECIPE: Frozen Strawberry 'Shortcake' Dessert

no dairy, no soy, no egg, no nuts, no corn, no gluten, no wheat, no fish, no shellfish
(there, I think I've covered all the major allergens)

Because of our son's allergies his choices for desserts are pretty limited.  It's difficult to find or make things that he likes.  Not that I blame him, some of the things I've made are just disgusting.  But when I do come across something that passes with flying colors I just HAVE to share it!

ALLERGIES: How Food Allergies Saved Our Lives

I know I've said it before, but here am going to say it again...  Food Allergies saved my family.

Before food allergies we ate, well... like crap.  lol  No really, we'd eat take out, frozen meals, cheesy artery clogging meals, fried foods galore, and because none of us were overweight (don't ask how we achieved that, I still have no clue) I really didn't think much of it.  Until our youngest came along and his food allergies changed our lives.

ALLERGIES: The Crane Game

The Crane Game

During our school vacation I brought my boys to a local arcade. The place that we go to is enormous. They have games, laser tag, a bouncy house, a 3 story playground, and a carousel (just to name a few). To say this place has something for everyone is an understatement. This is the type of establishment you could spend hours at, like we did.

Dried Strawberries Verdict

I have a new addiction, Pinterest.  I love getting new ideas for life from it.  I try new recipes, new games, paint color, furniture arrangement, and educational printouts for the kids, etc.  You name it, Pinterest has it.  As I slowly attempt to do some of the things that it offers, I'm finding that not all of them are what they seem.  Sure, it may be an awesome picture, but that's about it.

ALLERGIES: The Double Edged Sword

As I collect all of our allergy child's previous test results I can't help but think of my feelings during those times.  As a mother to a child with multiple allergies my emotions have been on a constant roller coaster.  I feel as though every time I begin to feel confident and allow myself to lower my guard, a reaction occurs.  So I get caught up in this never ending cycle of confidence, guilt, worry, and borderline craziness.
